SPORTS RECAP: Week of November 21st

Goaltender Alex Rodriguez of the Boys Hockey Team
Boys Hockey: Game vs. St. Marcellinus C.S.S
Date: Monday November 21st
Location: Mayfield Arena

Our Boys Hockey Team was back in action on Monday when they faced off against St. Marcellinus. The boys played hard but fell to a 4-2 loss. The boys now hold a record of 0-3. The team travels to the Vic Johnston Arena on Thursday December 1st for their game against Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Good Luck Boys!

Boys Table Tennis: Game vs. Sandalwood Heights S.S.
Date: Tuesday November 22nd
Location: Mayfield S.S.

Our Varsity Boys Table Tennis team took on Sandalwood Heights in their second outing of the season. The boys played hard but lost 10-3. Cougar Collins and Ryan Singer won both of their doubles matches while Cameron Dunkerley and Shayne Ghandi won their match as well. The team plays next on Tuesday against Castlebrooke S.S. Good Luck Mavs!

Girls Hockey: Game vs. St. Marcellinus C.S.S
Date: Thursday November 24th
Location: Mayfield Arena

Mayfield’s Girls Hockey team opened their season against St. Marcellinus on Thursday. The girls came out strong taking a commanding 4-1 lead into the second period. The girls continued to dominate as the game resulted in an 8-1 win for the Mavericks. Stephanie Goertzen led the team with two goals and an assist while Hunter Barnett added a goal and two assists. Goals were also scored by Paige Schwieg, Kennedy Rawding, Maddie Gibson, Lizzie Gibson and Natalie Fougere. The girls travel to Greenbriar Recreation Centre on Monday for their game against St. Thomas Aquinas. Good Luck Girls!

SPORTS RECAP: Week of November 14th

Senior Girls Basketball: Playoff Game vs. Philip Pocock
Date: Monday November 14th
Location: Philip Pocock C.S.S

Our Senior Girls Basketball Team started their playoff run on Tuesday against Philip Pocock. The girls came out strong winning the game 38-24. The team’s leading scorers were Katya Dondi and Jotam Chouhan. The girls move on to play the undefeated St. Michael in the Quarter Finals on Thursday. Good Luck Mavs!

Boys Hockey: Game vs St. Martin
Date: Tuesday November 15th
Location: Huron Park

Our Boys Hockey Team played their first game of the season on Tuesday on the road against St. Martin. It was a fast paced game that resulted in a 4-3 loss for the Mavericks. Kevin Paschalis scored two goals and Cooper Bertrand added another. Alex Rodriguez played an excellent game in goal. The boys play again on Thursday. Go Mavs Go!

Junior Girls Basketball: Semi Final Game vs. Father Michael Goetz
Date: Tuesday November 15th
Location: Father Michael Goetz C.S.S

Our Junior Girls Basketball Team played their Semi Final game against Father Michael Goetz on Tuesday. The girls were ranked fourth in the league heading into the playoffs matching them up with the first place team. Father Michael Goetz dominated winning the game 41-24. The Junior Girls have had an excellent season! Congrats Lady Mavs!

Boys Table Tennis: Game vs. David Suzuki
Date: Wednesday November 16th
Location: Mayfield S.S

The Mayfield Boys Table Tennis team opened their season on Wednesday with matches against David Suzuki. The boys played well but lost by a score of 6-5. The boys play next Tuesday against Sandalwood Heights. Good Luck Boys!

Senior Boys Football: Semi Final Game vs. St. Joan of Arc

Location: St. Joan of Arc C.S.S

Our Senior Boys Football Team played their Semi Final game against St. Joan of Arc on Thursday. The boys lost the game 20-17, ending their playoff run. Touchdowns were scored by Jake Bridge and Evan Sranga. Josh Bridge added one convert, and two singles. Hitmen of the game were Brennan Annette, John Ferguson and Evan Sranga. Brennan Annette was awarded The Big Stick. Congrats on an amazing season boys! Special thanks to the Grade 12 team members for all of their contributions to Mavs Football over the last four years.

Boys Hockey: Game vs. St. Michael
Date: Thursday November 17th
Location: Caledon East

Our Boys Hockey team played their second game of the season on Thursday when they travelled to St. Michael S.S. The boys played the game with just nine skaters and managed to hold the game scoreless until midway through the second period. The boys eventually lost 5-0. The boys play their first home game of the season on Monday. Go Mavs Go!

Senior Girls Basketball: Quarter Final Game vs. St. Michael
Date: Thursday November 17th
Location: St. Michael C.S.S

The Senior Girls Basketball Team was back in action this week in the Quarter Finals following a victory on Tuesday. The girls came into the game with hopes of handing St. Michael their first loss of the season. Mayfield kept the game close but St. Michael showed why they are the third place ranked team in the league as they won the game 34-31. Congratulations on a fantastic season Lady Mavs!

SPORTS RECAP: Week of November 7th

Senior Girls Basketball: Game vs. Ascension of Our Lord
Date: Tuesday November 8th
Location: Mayfield

The Senior Girls Basketball Team played their final game of the season on Tuesday against Ascension of Our Lord. The girls entered the game coming off a 43-16 win over Lincoln Alexander on November 2nd. The girls came out strong once again winning 42-29. Jotam Chouhan and Katya Dondi continued to carry the team as the team’s leading scorers. The girls finish the season ranked 3rd in the North East Division. The girls will play their Preliminary Round Playoff game on Monday November 14th against Philip Pocock. Good Luck Girls!

Junior Girls Basketball: Game vs. Notre Dame
Date: Tuesday November 8th
Location: Mayfield

Our Junior Girls Basketball Team wrapped up their regular season on Tuesday against third place ranked Notre Dame. The girls entered the game hoping to get back to their winning ways after a loss to Notre Dame last Thursday. The girls played strong but unfortunately lost by a score of 35-30. The girls finished off the season ranked 4th in the league, qualifying them for the playoffs. The girls play their Semi Final game against 1st place ranked Father Michael Goetz on Tuesday November 15th. Go Mavs Go!

Wrestling Tournament
Date: Wednesday November 9th

Mayfield’s Wrestling Team competed in their first tournament on Wednesday. Eleven wrestlers represented Mayfield in the tournament. Five of our wrestlers brought home medals. Congratulations to Ethan Fischer and Lashawana Knowle for bringing home bronze medals, Henry Bryson and Amanda Parkes for bringing home silver and Kelyn Young for bringing home the gold medal. Great Job Mavericks!

Senior Boys Football: Playoff Game vs. Loyola
Date: Thursday November 10th
Location: Mayfield

The Senior Boys Football Team played against Loyola on Thursday in their Quarterfinal matchup. The Mavericks were won in come from behind fashion when they took the lead in the last minute of the game. The boys won the game 19-17. Touchdowns were scored by John Milkovich and Jake Bridge. Josh Bridge continued to dominate by adding a field goal and two converts. Jervaughn Channer scored a safety. Hitmen of the game were Jake Bridge, Jervaughn Channer and Michael Wootton. The boys play in the Semifinals on Thursday November 17th against St. Joan of Arc who were ranked first in the South division.
