SPORTS RECAP: Week of April 10th

Junior Boys Badminton
Date: Wednesday April 12th
Location: Mayfield S.S.

On Wednesday, Mayfield's Junior Boys Badminton team played their first game against Humberview. Mayfield came out strong in their home opener winning the first game 16-15. Mayfield will host Cardinal Ambrozic C.S.S. on Wednesday April 26th at 3:30pm. Go Mavs Go!

On Wednesday, Mayfield's Junior Girls Badminton team played their first game of the season when they hosted Humberview. This was the team's home opener. They won the game 17-12. Mayfield will host St. Marguerite d'Youville C.S.S. on Friday April 21st at 3:30pm. Go Mavs Go!

SPORTS RECAP: Senior Girls Curling- Road to ROPSSAA Championships

On Monday February 27th, Mayfield's Senior Girls Curling team continued on their path to the ROPSSAA Championships. The girls squared off against St. Aloysius Gonzaga C.S.S. in the quarterfinals. Mayfield won the game 7-5 which advanced them to the semifinals.

Mayfield travelled back to Brampton Curling Club on Friday March 3rd to face off against Loyola C.S.S. in the semifinals. Mayfield dominated the game as they won 15-0.

The ROPSSAA Finals took place on Monday March 6th at Brampton Curling Club. Mayfield and Cardinal Leger went head to head. Mayfield came up on top winning 12-4 which crowned Mayfield ROPSSAA Champions.

Mayfield's Senior Girls Curling team will travel to North Bay for the OFSAA Championships from March 22nd to 25th. Good Luck Girls! Mayfield is proud of you and all your hardwork!

Senior Boys Basketball: Preliminary Round Game

Date: Tuesday February 21^st

Location: T.L. Kennedy S.S.

Mayfield’s Senior Boys Basketball team travelled to T.L. Kennedy Secondary School on Tuesday to play in their preliminary round playoff game. The boys played hard and did not give up which lead to a 59-50 win for the Mavericks. T.L. Kennedy was undefeated on the season coming into their game against Mayfield. Mayfield will travel to Bramalea Secondary School on Thursday for the Quarterfinals. Good Luck Boys!

 Senior Girls Volleyball: Semi-Finals

Date: Wednesday February 22^nd

Location: Mayfield S.S.

Mayfield’s Senior Girls Volleyball team hosted St. Marcellinus on Wednesday for the Semi-Finals. Mayfield and St. Marcellinus came into the match with 10-0 records. St. Marcellinus won the first set 25-15. Mayfield stormed back winning the next three sets to take a 3-1 win. Mayfield’s sets were won 25-18, 25-20 and 25-19. Tristan Peterson, Kristen Seymour and Dani Grabowski led the team once again. Mayfield will face St. Francis Xavier in the ROPSSAA Finals on Friday at Mayfield. Go Mavs Go!

Girls Hockey: Quarterfinals

Date: Thursday February 23^rd

Location: Iceland

Mayfield’s Girls Hockey team travelled to Iceland on Thursday to face off against Loyola C.S.S. for the Quarterfinals. Mayfield came into the game with a 7-2-1 record while Loyola held a 5-2-1 record. Loyola was the stronger team as they came out on top with a 4-1 victory. The coaches would like to express their thanks and recognize the graduating team members: Madison Firth, Maddie Gibson, Anna Ryan and Captain Brittany Giles. Congrats on a great season girls, you made Mayfield proud. Go Mavs Go!

Senior Girls Volleyball: ROPSSAA Finals

Date: Friday February 24^th

Location: Mayfield S.S.

Our Senior Girls Volleyball team took to the court on Friday as they played St. Francis Xavier in the ROPSSAA Finals. Both teams came into the game undefeated. St. Francis Xavier won the first set 25-18 followed by a second set win of 25-14. Mayfield began their quest to comeback by taking the lead in the third set but Xavier stormed right back to win the set 25-22. Mayfield was awarded the silver medals. Special thanks goes out to the team’s graduating members: Jotam Chouhan, Dani Grabowski, Meghan Ogram, Gillian Rodrigues, Gillian Vian and captain Tristan Peterson.

Mavericks Clean Up at ROPSSAA Nordic

Our Tuesday February 14th, Mayfield's Nordic Ski team travelled to Highlands Nordic to compete in the ROPSSAA Championships.

Rory McDonald started off Mayfield's winning day by placing 1st in his category with Noah Chalifoux as his guide. Hannah Longpre competed in the Novice Exhibition race and skied to a 2nd place finish.

Mayfield's Junior Girls were led by Julia Umereanu in 2nd place, followed by Emma Wilson in 4th and Taylor Rassmussen in 5th. Ashley Skinkle and Kady Wellman rounded off the team with 10th and 11th place finishes.

Mayfield's Junior Boys took home 1st Overall with a clean sweep! Tyler Downey led the team with a 1st place finish and was followed by William Wooton in 2nd, Matt Shaw in 3rd, Justin Vanstone in 4th and Tyler Mihkelson in 5th. Jackson Wood skied to an 8th place finish to round off the team. 

Our Senior Girls team was led by Emma Grove who won the 5.7km race! Emma was followed by Katya Dondi in 6th and Sloan Westlake in 8th. Karina McDonald and Alex Azzopardi rounded off the team with 11th and 15th place finishes.

Mayfield's Senior Boys team was led by John Milkovich who won the race. He was followed by Daniel Shaw in 3rd and Michael Wooton in 4th. Josh Mihkelson and Bradan Vanstone finished in 7th and 8th while Telfer Beveridge and Nicholas Klymciw finished in 10th and 12th.

Mayfield's Junior Boys Relay team took home a 1st place finish while the Junior Girls, Senior Girls and Senior Boys Team A brought home 2nd place finishes. Mayfield's Senior Boys Team B brought home 3rd. 

The team will travel to OFSSA in Timmins, ON from February 28th to March 1st. Good Luck Mavs!
