Mayfield Maverick signing with Dayton

Current Mayfield Maverick, Jotam Chouhan is one step closer to living her dream of being a professional soccer player. On Wednesday February 1st, Jotam will be signing her National Letter of Intent which shows her commitment to play soccer for Dayton University in Dayton, Ohio starting in the Fall.

Jotam has been playing soccer since she was four years old. She currently plays for Aurora United. During her career, she has won the Ontario Cup twice, the Ontario Summer Games and the Ontario-Quebec Cup as well as winning the Ontario Youth Soccer League. Jotam has also played for Team Ontario.

Jotam hopes to study Exercise Science at Dayton.


As a Mayfield Maverick, Jotam has played on the school's volleyball, basketball, flag football and soccer teams. She has captained multiple teams and has won multiple MVP and MIP awards. She has also been nominated for Athlete of the Year and has earned multiple Athlete of the Week honours.

Jotam will be signing on Wednesday February 1st at 2pm at Mayfield Seconday School. Come on out and support your fellow Maverick as she takes this next step!

SPORTS RECAP: Week of January 16th

Senior Boys Curling: Game vs. Bramalea S.S.
Date: Monday January 16th, 2017
Location: Chinguacousy Curling Club

Our Senior Boys Curling team travelled to Chinguacousy Curling Club on Monday to face off against Bramalea S.S. The boys lost the game 11-1 but played strong. The team has two games remaining in their regular season with the next being on Tuesday February 7th against Heart Lake. The team heads into exam break with a record of 2-2 to place them 4th in the North division. Go Mavs Go!

Girls Hockey: Game vs. Robert F. Hall C.S.S.
Date: Monday January 16th, 2017
Location: Caledon East

Mayfield’s Girls Hockey team travelled to Caledon East on Monday to face off against Robert F. Hall. The girls entered the game hoping to win the second game of their home and home series after winning the first game 5-1 on January 12th. Mayfield played a strong game and did not give up as they won the game 1-0. Kennedy Rawding scored the game’s only goal with 25 seconds left in the game. The goal was scored on a spectacular feed from Brittany Giles. Maggie Murrins earned the shutout in goal. The team heads into exam break holding down 1st place in the North division. The girls are back in action on Tuesday February 7th when they host Heart Lake. Go Mavs Go!

Junior Girls Volleyball: Game vs. Castlebrooke S.S.
Date: Monday January 16th, 2017
Location: Castlebrooke S.S.

Mayfield’s Junior Girls Volleyball team remains undefeated on the season as they head into exam break with a 6-0 record. The girls captured their sixth win of the season on Monday when they faced off against Castlebrooke. The girls won the game 2-0 after winning the first match 25-15 and the second match 25-11. The team has two more games left of their regular season with the next being on February 3rd when they travel to Robert F. Hall. Good Luck Girls!

SPORTS RECAP: Week of January 9th

Boys Hockey: Game vs. Loyola C.S.S.
Date: Wednesday January 11th, 2017
Location: Mayfield Arena

Mayfield’s Boys Hockey team played their final game of the season on Wednesday against Loyola C.S.S. The boys ended the season with a 5-3 victory. The team took a quick 2-0 lead and never looked back. Reid Valade led the team with two goals. Cameron Clewes, Garrett Mercer and Nick Rotatore added a goal each. The team finished the season with a 2-5-1 record. Great Season Boys!

Senior Girls Volleyball: Game vs. Humberview S.S.
Date: Wednesday January 11th, 2017
Location: Mayfield S.S.

Mayfield’s Senior Girls Volleyball team remains undefeated after a 2-1 victory over Humberview on Wednesday. Mayfield won the first set 25-15 but lost the second set 25-23. Mayfield stormed back winning the third set 15-10. The girls continue their quest to remain undefeated when they travel to Holy Name of Mary on Friday. Good Luck Girls!

Girls Hockey: Game vs. Robert F. Hall C.S.S.

Location: Mayfield Arena

Our Girls Hockey team hosted Robert F. Hall on Thursday as they hoped to improve to a record of 4-0-1. The girls did just that with a successful 5-1 victory. Hunter Barnett led the team with two goals while Kennedy Rawding, Maddie Gibson and Stephanie Goertzen added a goal each. Captain Brittany Giles continues to lead the team with her leadership on and off the ice. The girls travel to Caledon East on Monday January 16th to face off against Robert F. Hall once again. Go Mavs Go!

Date: Thursday January 12th, 2017
Location: Mayfield S.S.

Mayfield’s Senior Boys Basketball team hosted Judith Nyman on Thursday as they attempted to extend their win streak to two games. Mayfield won the game 69-52. The Chabot Brothers led the team once again. Joel led with 13 points while Evan added 12. The team has two more games left of the season with the next being on Tuesday January 17th at Mayfield. Mayfield currently sits 4th in the North West division. Good Luck Boys!

Mayfield’s Junior Boys Basketball team hoped to get back into the win column on Thursday when they squared off against Louise Arbour. The team lost to Louise Arbour 58-56 before the break. The boys came back stronger than ever winning 56-39. The team plays next on Tuesday January 17th at Mayfield against Fletcher’s Meadow. Come on out and support the team! Go Mavs Go!

Nordic Ski Meet: Thames Valley Race
Date: Thursday January 12th, 2017
Location: Hardwood Ski & Bike- Oro-Medonte

Mayfield’s Nordic Ski team travelled to Oro-Medonte on Thursday to race in the Thames Valley High School Invitational Race at Hardwood Ski and Bike. Rory McDonald and his guide, Noah Chalifoux, placed second in the Para Boys 2.5km race. Julia Ungureanu led the Junior Girls with an 8th place finish. Emma Wilson, Ashley Skinkle and Taylor Rasmussen followed close behind to place the team 1st overall. The Junior Boys team skied a 5km race and also placed 1st overall. Tyler Downey led the team placing 7th overall and was followed by William Wootton in 8th, Matt Shaw in 9th and Tyler Mihkelson in 17th. The Senior Girls team was led by Emma Grove in 5th place. She was followed by Sloan Westlake, Katya Dondi and Alex Azzopardi to place the team 3rd overall. The Senior Boys placed 3rd overall as well. The team was led by Michael Wootton and followed by Daniel Shaw, Josh Mihkelson and Nicholas Klymciw. Well done skiers! Go Mavs Go!

Mayfield’s Senior Boys Curling team hoped to get back into the win column on Friday when they squared off against St. Michael. The boys won 6-2. The boys play next on Monday January 16th when they play Bramalea S.S. Good Luck Boys!

Our Senior Girls Volleyball team travelled to Holy Name of Mary on Friday as they tried to improved their record to 7-0. The girls won the first set 25-16 but Holy Name of Mary kept the second set close as Mayfield won by a score of 25-21. Mayfield continues to dominate their division with only one set loss this season. The girls will host Holy Name of Mary on Tuesday; the game begins at 3:30pm. Come on out and support the team!
